There will be great resistance to change because the whole of the economy of Western Society depends on distasteful practices in the media and stock exchange.  Change must be gradual, government sponsored, supported by the great institutions.  So there will caution by those people in entrenched positions and caution is needed by those of us who feel that change is necessary.

People have had 50 years of a particular way of thinking.  That has resulted in a Society that is far from what most people would like it to be.
Our proposals should yield success even if they take 50 years to work through the generations.

Our experience in a drop-in group for young people, called Rood Crew,  who do not go to church has been suprisingly good.
Young people from age 12 up come to a church centre (it has 6 rooms) on a Tuesday evening from 7 to 10.  The group is run by members of the church and is expressly to show care and consideration for these young people, many of whom are on drugs, who smoke, drink and are having sex.
The police are surprised that we are more successful than other clubs for the same young people.  When asked why, one of our lady leaders said 'because we love them'.  We find that by being trustworthy and caring for the  young people they trust us with their troubles and hence at last they have found adults who are not against them - as are their parents, teachers and the police.
We are a Christian group and are backed up by prayer as well as love!  At first the church leaders were against what we were doing (some probably still are!) but most have seen the success we have and the support of the police and accept that this is a vital experiment for the future well-being of teenagers, and therefore of Society.  People in Youthwork are now beginning to realise that the important thing with young people is not programmes and plans but relationships.  In Rood Crew we try to build relationships of trust and confidence.  We find the young will be eager to develop such relationships provided they find they can really trust us.

If clubs like this were available for all teenagers what difference would that make to the next generation of adults?

How do you change the ham fisted handling of teenagers to the considerate and loving handling of them?  Their behaviour is only what they have learned from adults and each other.  But to many people teenagers are not very loveable unless you have a gift of loving and caring for them.
Most of what the teenagers learn must come from the media.  They see violence, marriage break up, dis-honesty, hate, murder, burglary, drugs, smoking, sex on television so is it surprising that they copy what they see?  Media moguls say it doesn't make any difference to teenage behaviour but they would wouldn't they?  The media will prove statistically that television will have no effect on the behaviour of teenagers.  We do not need biased statistics to confirm to us that TV has an enormous effect on teenagers.  That is just common sense.  One TV executive, on being asked if the advertising on TV affects  what teenagers buy said something like 'affect them! We own them'.
There is no effective censorship of the media and they go mad if you suggest that there should be!  But if they will not censor themselves and stop the programs that cause heartbreaking breaking up of families, then they will have to be controlled.  Great caution is needed if we are to achieve that!  Imagine the resistance by comedians if they could no longer use sexual and obscene jokes on TV.  They would have to think up really funny jokes.   Or if the radio plays could not use sex and divorce in their stories.  They would also have to think up some real plots.  But at least it would stop the media pulling down Society's behaviour pattern.  Yes, it does need caution and there will be resistance!

What sort of people do we need to lead the country into the future?
Churchill & Initiative Perhaps we could echo Churchill in agreeing that in Nelson's time there were not enough men with initiative, zeal and a burning eagerness to attack......!    Ref 6-1.

It will take quite a tug to get the governments and institutions and society to change! This is a tug!
